One of South Walton’s most popular annual events is the 30A Songwriters Festival, which is held over MLK Jr. Weekend, Jan. 15-17, 2016. Held in venues along scenic Highway 30A and in Miramar Beach, the seventh annual festival will feature headline performances by recognized artists including Jackson Browne, Grace Potter, and Gretchen Peters. Also confirmed are Ani DiFanco, Emerson Heart (Tonic), Kristian Bush (Sugarland), Shawn Mullins and Jeffery Steele, among many others.
While it’s hard to put your finger on what makes this festival so special, we attribute it to the intimacy of the venues and the passion of the artists. Sitting alongside music lovers from around the country, fans enjoy a personal moment with the artists as share their private stories and the inspiration behind the songs before each soulful performance. The event features more than 100 artists and more than 200 performances. In addition, as the weekend progresses the friendships that are built among the songwriters often lead to impromptu collaborations and performances.
This year’s headliner Jackson Browne is an American singer-songwriter and musician who has sold over 18 million albums in the United States. Browne is recognized for writing and recording some of the most popular songs of the 1970’s including "These Days", "The Pretender", "Running on Empty”, "Take It Easy", "For a Rocker", and "Somebody's Baby". He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. HIs performance will take place on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Grand Boulevard at Sandestin.
