The community along the Emerald Coast has one more thing to be proud of this month. The Destin Beach Safety Lifeguards were named National Champions in Division B (100 employees or less) at the 2015 Nautica United States Lifesaving Association National Lifeguard Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Destin team is made up of 25 team members (15 men & 10 women). In addition to the team win, several lifeguards took home individual awards. A new amentity comes to Scenic 30A thanks to the South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA). This month, SWARA deployed the first half of 58 artificial reef structures off of Grayton Beach State Park. This is the first of several snorkel and fishing reefs planned that will span across south Walton County. Each reef structure is constructed with limestone rocks embedded in 5 foot diameter concrete plates. Each reef features a 10? diameter fiberglass piling sunk deep in the seabed.
